Kahekili Beach Park
Kahekili beach is less built up than Ka'anapali Beach, its neighbor just to the south. The Westin Ka'anapali Resort is right on the shore, and there's some new construction going up just north of that, as well as some very expensive houses and a golf course on the southern end of the beach. The snorkeling is quite good just to the right of the parking lot (in front of the Westin), where a coral reef starts just a few feet into the water. Farther south (to the left as you face the water), the reef disappears and the slope of the beach lessens, providing swimmers with a more inviting area to frolic in the water.A/K/A
The full name of Kahekili Beach is Ali'i Kahekili Nui Ahumanu Beach Park, named after King Kahekili, who ruled Maui and O`ahu for 45 years until 1794. Kahekili Beach is also known as North Beach or Airport Beach (the old Ka'anapali Airport used to be nearby).Hours of Operation
Kahekili Beach is open from 6:00am to 1/2 hour after sunset daily. The parking lot gate is locked after hours, but you can call the security guards to come let you out if your car is accidentally trapped after dark (it can take them up to 45 minutes to get back around to the parking lot, however). There seem to be a few spaces outside the gate but also outside private parking lot-- you might consider using these spots if you plan on getting back to the parking lot after dark.Weather Forecast

And here is another live picture from Kahekili Beach, looking towards the south from the Maui Kai. If you click on the picture a new window will open taking you to http://www.mauikai.com, where you can view full-motion video from this webcam, zoom it in and out, and steer it around to different parts of the beach. This camera has a particularly good view of the sunset on most days.
Getting There
To get to Kahekili Beach Park, drive west on the Honoapi'ilani Highway (State Route 30) through Lahaina and past Ka'anapali Parkway on the left. Turn left at the next traffic signal, Kai Ala Drive (the road on the right at this intersection is named Puukolii Road). Kahekili Beach Park's parking lot is straight ahead. It looks like you're going into the Westin parking lot, but in fact, that lot is to the right.

What's Nearby
The Maui Eldorado golf course is along the southern shore of Kahekili Beach, from Black Rock up to the Royal Lahaina Resort. North of there are the Ka'anapali Villas, then some very expensive homes and then the parking lot. North of the parking lot there is only the Westin Ka'anapali Resort and some adjacent new construction and then no development until you reach the very northernmost tip of the beach.
