Hamoa Beach
Hamoa beach is tucked away down a flight of stairs from Haneo'o Road in Hana. The only parking is along the side of Haneo'o Road. The Hotel Hana-Maui has facilities on this beach (even though the hotel is fairly far away) and runs a shuttle bus for its guests. The beach is a long strand of soft grey sand tucked between lava rock outcroppings. Because the waves break right at the shore, it can be a dangerous beach, especially during high surf. Body surfing and boogie boarding can be difficult here due to the shorebreak.
James A. Michener wrote, Paradoxically, the only beach I have ever seen that looks like the South Pacific was in the North Pacific. Hamoa Beach on Maui Island in Hawai'i; a beach so perfectly formed that I wonder at its comparative obscurity. Formed into the shape of a half moon, it is rimmed by boulders of lava and guarded by tall volcanic needles. Pandanus [Hala] trees line the shore, which offers a crescent of black and silver sand.
Hours of Operation
Hamoa Beach is open 24 hours a day. The Hotel Hana-Maui shuttle runs hourly from 10:00am to 4:00pm, weather permitting.Weather Forecast

Getting There
Hamoa Beach is on Haneo'o Road, which is about one mile beyond Hana (towards the Pools at O'heo and Kaupo) on the Hana Highway. Turn left onto Haneo'o Road and drive until you see a bunch of cars parked on the side of the road. Of course, if no one is at the beach, you'll have to look more carefully for the stairs or the small pavillion-like structure on the side of the road. Park and walk down to the beach using the staircase.
